The Story Behind Smartex
Smartex was created by Vince Kay, ACMA, CGMA after witnessing first-hand the impact of weak systems, blurred responsibilities and ego-driven decision-making at senior level, and experiencing the consequences of those failures personally.
Across Vince’s career, and having heard the same story from many other corporate leaders, he observed a pattern that became impossible to ignore, organisations without structural clarity and evidence-based decision-making often develop cultural blind spots. Stress rises, communication breaks down and unhealthy behaviours from certain individuals can take root unnoticed.
In a previous role, things became deeply personal for Vince. A small group within the organisation behaved in ways that he experienced as bullying, and it took a real toll on his health and wellbeing. Although he raised his concerns, the situation wasn’t resolved within the local leadership structure. This period taught him how vulnerable people can become when an organisation’s everyday systems and processes lack the clarity and visibility needed to keep everyone safe.
These experiences shaped the core principles behind Smartex, that organisations need clarity, structure and truth-based leadership frameworks to protect their people and perform at their best. Smartex is built so that truth is visible, performance is understood, leadership is accountable and people are protected, ‘because when organisations have clarity, bullies lose their power.’
